Biking Rovinj’s Golden Cape

The most fun you can have on two wheels in Rovinj is biking the fabulous Forest Park Golden Cape. This beautiful park started out as the vision of Johann Georg Hütterott to create the health club resort Cap Aureo (Golden Cape) back in the 19th century. He didn’t live long enough to realize his dream but his vision laid the foundation for the development of tourism in Rovinj.

Forest Park Golden Cape

The park is about 222 acres of forested lands with a wide path next to the beautiful coastline with countless opportunities to stop and swim and picnic, or linger awhile at one of the little cafés. You don’t need a map, just follow the road from Rovinj all the way around the harbor and past the marina, you can’t miss it.

To enjoy a long leisurely bike ride, rent a bike for 4 or 5 hours and bike all the way to the Naturist camp, with a stop on the way back for a beer at the lively Grill Lovor.

Practicalities

Check with your hotel or apartment for bike rentals – we stayed at Apartments Trevisol, owned by D’Oro Hotel & Apartments where a discounted rate at a local company was 80 Kuna for 5 hours (about $12). If your accommodation doesn’t have bikes there’s a rental at the big parking lot on Obala where the ferries dock.

Have you been to Rovinj? Did you get to bike the Golden Cape?

  1. Upon finding your recommendations through Fodor’s Forums, we will be stopping in Rovinj this September! Thanks so much!
